My Experiences with Online Communities - 2
In my quest to discover and learn about Folksonomies, I realised just how involved the topic is. I managed to get my FOAF - Friend of a Friend - file completed and will be interested to see if or how that all works. The concept behind it is great, but in my mind I am still trying to get my head around the idea of trying to connect everyone who uses the world wide web in some way. I found it a little obscure, but perhaps I don’t fully understand it all?
I have decided that I will complete a Blog Roll on this blog that includes students completing this subject and perhaps some others of interest. I am thinking that doing this will help me keep in touch with the work of others. I will also put RSS feeds on those from my POD group so that their postings are placed directly into my email inbox. As I will be working fairly closely with these students, I hope it will help me better understand their thoughts and ideas on topics as they are completed.
My best find to date, I feel, have been bookmarking sites. I have signed up to two -
Delicious - http://delicious.com and Diigo - www.diigo.com . Why two? I had heard about Delicious before and never taken the time to sign myself up. It is a site/service that has been talked about by our IT consultants for a while. I thought that, after signing for a “well known” bookmarking site, that I would sign up for one I had never heard of and perhaps down the track do a comparison - hence the Diigo sign up.
I have found the most amazing resources from exploring these sites, tagging, bookmarking and investigating who else out there in cyberspace might be interested in the same topics I am. In delicious I have discovered that I can tag sites and then subscribe to the tags to turn up resources that have been tagged by other people. In Diigo I have discovered that their are groups I can join within its network, of like minded people - someone who will perhaps understand my passion for using computers in education and help me use technology as a fantastic learning tool!
GREAT STUFF!!
